October – The Month of the Holy Rosary
In the Liturgical Year there are two months dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God – May is the month of Mary and October is the month of the Holy Rosary.
The memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated on the 7th October and was instituted by Pope St. Pius V to commemorate the intercession of Our Lady, through praying the rosary before the battle of Lepanto in 1571.
Throughout the month of October we pray the rosary and mediate on the Gospels. We are asking Jesus’ Mother to pray with us and for us. As the perfect disciple who was the first person to say ‘yes’ to Jesus and who suffered in grief at the crucifixion and rejoiced at the resurrection, she is an example to us all who can comfort us and guide us in our own call to holiness.
